In addition to the previous post, i found out that disabling Intel turbo boost from the CPU does decrease by a lot the fan noise.

My CPU runs at 2.9GHz but with Turbo boost enabled it runs until 3.3GHz. It increase performance but also temperature and fan noise. Currently i don’t need that extra boost so disabled doesn’t hurt.

Disable like this

echo "1" | tee /sys/devices/system/cpu/intel_pstate/no_turbo

Update 2.1

Another improvement. Wayland by default sets the resolution to the maximum that the macbook a.k.a. slackbook is capable.

  • 2560x1600 @ 60Hz

More resolution, more processing, more heated CPU.

I did adjust resolution to another 16:10 but with less pixels

  • 1920x1200 @ 60Hz

After this change, noisy fan are rare.
